What is Card Grading?

Professional grading companies examine your card and assign a numerical score based on condition. The card is then sealed in a tamper-proof case (called a "slab") with the grade displayed.

Major Grading Companies

PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator): The most recognized name, especially for Pokemon. PSA 10s command the highest premiums.
CGC (Certified Guaranty Company): Newer to cards but well-respected. Often faster turnaround and lower costs.

Notice the exponential jump at PSA 10. This is why grading only makes sense if your card has a realistic shot at a high grade.
